How Much Collaboration Is Too Much?

As a Dunedin resident I often read the Otago Daily Times print edition. Most usually at my favoured cafe as I have my lunch, or a morning coffee.

The ODT is an old paper and is still independent: a very rare thing these days. It's reflective of it's Progressive, University town readership, so while it is trusted, there can be some oddities in reporting.

I've started looking at the bylines and large portion, likely the majority, of New Zealand news now seems to be coming from Radio New Zealand, and therefore reflects the editorial policy of RNZ.

For a formerly long-time listener like me, my perception is that  RNZ has shifted from attempts at balance to uninquiring advocacy for progressivism, and that is losing it's audience - including me.

That poses something of a credibility problem for The ODT, as trust in RNZ has fallen precipitously, along with it's listenership.

Maybe the ODT needs to be a bit cautious about its sources to avoid distrust by association.
